-- New report on human rights challenges and opportunities for business in Pakistan
Thursday, 9 February 2017
On 9 February 2017, Democracy Reporting International (DRI) launched the Briefing Paper Recognising the Impact of Business on Human Rights: Challenges and Opportunities for Pakistan. The Paper was prepared by Equidem following extensive consultations with federal and provincial government authorities, parliamentarians, multi-national companies and local industrialists, labour rights activists, worker communities, and experts across Pakistan. Aimed primarily at Pakistan's business community, regulators and civil society, the Briefing Paper provides a practical guide to the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights, identifies some of the main risk areas in Pakistani business activities, and offers concrete recommendations for all stakeholders to improve respect for human rights in the country.
The Briefing Paper comes at a critical moment when Pakistan’s increasing economic stability and recognition of its status as one of the fastest growing economies provides an opportune time to discuss the impact of business on human rights.
